Star Wars: The Phantom Menace(Link fixed 5/10/09)
It was ten years ago (!) when Star Wars fans went through what Trekkies and Trekkers are going through this weekend - seeing something on the big screen that they’ve waited a long, long time for. The Phantom Menace was a bit of a mess - what with mitichlorians, Jar Jar Binks, and the annoying acting of Jake Lloyd messing things up considerably - but it still sated fans who went cold turkey after Return Of The Jedi was released in 1983.
This was the first - er, the only - single released from the score, composed by none other than John Williams, who has written music for all six Star Wars films. It, of course, accompanied the climactic lightsaber fight between Qui-Gon Jinn, his young padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth fucking Maul, the baddest ass Lucas ever created, right down to his double-ended saber. Which he really should’ve used on Jar Jar. :-)
